Obituary

Age 78 of Richfield passed away surrounded by family on February 1, 2020, after a short battle with cancer. Bruce was born January 9, 1942 in Minneapolis. After graduating from DeLaSalle High School, he entered the Naval Reserves and attended the University of Minnesota, where he met and married his wife of 42 years, Ellen Ann Hood.

Bruce devoted his life to serving others. He was proud of his 25 years of service on the Minneapolis Fire Department. He also served the sick and ailing as co-owner of a private ambulance service and never hesitated in taking care of his friends and family or anyone he saw in need.

He enjoyed motorcycle rides, cooking, time at his condo in Madeira Beach, Florida, and spending time with his friends & family. A practical joker and overall good neighbor, perhaps his most enduring legacy will be carried on through his children and grandchildren with the example of service and sense of humor he has passed on to all.

Preceded in death by wife, EllenAnn Rivers; parents, Sidney and Lillian (Krebs) Rivers; and brother, Larry Rivers. Survived by his children Ann (Steve) Menard, Bruce (Suzi) Rivers, Patrick (Erika) Rivers, and Molly (Bryan) Baldwin; grandchildren Ashley (Chris) Norton, Andrew (Melina) Menard, Michael and Jacqueline Rivers, Wyatt and Kiera Rivers, and Maggie and Sam Baldwin; siblings Judy (Brian) Doyle, Curt (Vicky) Rivers, Doug (Joan) Rivers, Jeanne (Steve) Pettersen, Paul (Nancy) Rivers, Josie (Jeff) Holker, Tom (Marie) Rivers, Don (Colleen) Rivers, Peggy Roytek, and large extended family.

I met Bruce for the first time in 2005 on the 911 Memorial Ride, on the way we connected immediately, it was a fantastic time! It is a long story but the motorcycles got stolen and then recovered but as we went on the ride firetrucks from different stations along the route came out to salute us. Along the whole trip From Pennsylvania to New York City there were ladder trucks with flags dropped down on the overpasses. We had many memorable visits at Shanksville, the Pentagon and Ground Zero on the trip! Along with many other rides Copper Harbor, Door County, Maggie Valley and The Legacy Ride to name a few. Bruce will be greatly missed.

My sincere condolences to the whole family. I have so many wonderful memories of Bruce and EllenAnn at their home and all of the times he let us stay at his condo in Florida! My first motorcycle ride was with Bruce - the only person my mom trusted to take me on a motorcycle! He was the absolute best. My family and I will miss him dearly. I will be down in Madeira Beach during his service but I will definitely visit Madeira Norte and say goodbye to Bruce down there. We love you all!
