Jean Marie (Karolus) Powell, age 82 of Minneapolis, MN passed away unexpectedly with family by her side on November 2, 2017 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital. Preceded in death by parents Elmer and Marie Karolus, brother Michael Karolus, sister Janis Karolus, brother-in-law Richard Hoffman, brother Denis Karolus, sister-in-law Fleury Karolus, special cousin Bobby Karolus, niece Terri Karolus, special cousin Barbara Dickow, and granddaughter Courtney Annemarie Powell. Jean is survived by her husband, and love of her life, James D. Powell of 62 years; 4 children: Lynn LaBahn (John) of Victoria, MN; Steven (Christine Nowlan) Powell of Hastings, MN; Diane (Mark Hannah) Powell of Burnsville, MN; and Mark Powell of Burnsville, MN; 4 grandchildren: Joshua (Susan Schmittfranz) Powell of Crystal, MN; Ashley (Dmitri) Morris of Boston, MA; Caleb Powell of Hastings, MN; Jared Powell of Hastings, MN; 5 great-grandchildren; sister Carole Hoffman of Gresham, WI, as well as 5 nephews and 3 nieces throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. Jean was a wonderful wife, the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor. She loved gardening, preparing meals, polka dancing, and dessert. Jean was dedicated to her family and friends alike. Her door was always open, and she listened to everyone with a loving heart. Her smile gleamed and her blue eyes sparkled, as her life’s dream was to enjoy and share in her loved one’s lives. Visitation for Jean will be held Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Incarnation Catholic Church, 3817 Pleasant Ave S, in Minneapolis from 12-1pm with funeral mass directly to follow at 1pm. Internment will take place at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.
