Edward Joseph Callahan Jr.  "Ed"

Age 94 of Wayzata on June 2, 2017

Edward Joseph Callahan was born on July 2, 1922, in Lewiston, ME to Edward and Pauletta (Smith ) Callahan.  He is survived by his four children, Katherine Harder of Richmond, VA, Edward J Callahan of Steamboat Springs, CO,  Margaret Wyman (Steven) of Denver, CO and Colin Callahan (Jeanine) of Oak Hill ,VA and his four grandchildren, Sarah Wyman, Christian Harder, Anthony Callahan and Jordan Callahan.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Greenwaldt Callahan and son-in-law, Shepard Harder.

Ed graduated from The Blake Schools in 1939, before attending and graduating from Georgetown University in Washington DC in 1943.  He served in The United States Navy from 1943-1946.  He received his Law Degree from Harvard University in 1949.  After practicing law with his father for a number of years, he joined the law firm of Gray, Plant, Mooty where he worked well into his eighties.   As a public servant, he served several terms on the Orono Planning Commission and as Mayor of Orono from 1993-1996.  He was devoted to the Catholic Church and was a member of The Knights of Malta.

Ed was a member of The Greatest Generation, a man of integrity.  He was thoughtful, brilliant, honest, and fair. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and was known as a generous and loyal friend.  All who knew and loved him will miss him greatly.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Catholic Charities, or donor choice.

Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday June 13, 2017 11:00 a.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 5801 Lyndale Ave. So.  Private interment to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass. Memorials preferred to Catholic Charities or Donors Choice.
