Charles Drees

Saturday, February 18, 2017

Charles J. Drees age 88 of Edina passed away peacefully after a short bout with pneumonia on February 13, 2017.  Chuck was born and raised in Dyersville IA and was the first member of his family to leave the family farm and go to college (University of Iowa).  After college he moved to Des Moines to be with the love of his life, Lee Hanson. They married in 1952 and he began working at Iowa Securities. The company was purchased by Northwestern National Bank (now Wells Fargo) and he moved the family to Edina in 1975. He retired in 1983 having worked for only one company for his entire career.  In retirement he loved playing golf, gin and bridge all year round with his cronies at Braemar. Clearly, the love for his wife and family was the true passion in his life. His patience, calm demeanor, positive outlook, loyalty and terrific sense of humor endeared him to anyone that knew him.  And all things in his life were enjoyed just a little bit more with a nice glass of Cutty Sark scotch – heavy on the ice.

Chuck was preceded in death by beloved wife Lee ( 2004), his parents Fred and Nellie Drees, his brother Jim and son-in-law Bruce Brandt.  He is survived by his brother David; sister-in-law MaryAnn; his four children Beth Brandt, Kay Burke, Sue (Dick) Ward and Tom (Stephanie) Drees; eight grandchildren: Kelly ( Brian ) Trommetter, Kacey ( Ryan ) Bingham; Robert, Michael and Griffin Ward; Derek, Dylan and Sydney Drees; and one great-grandchild, August Trommetter.

Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, February 18th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior at Our Lady of Grace Church, 5071 Eden Avenue, Edina.  In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made in his memory to Sharing and Caring Hands or Our Lady of Grace Church.
