Robert M. Lufkin

Tuesday, May 17, 2016

Robert M. Lufkin, age 77, of Bloomington, passed away at home on May 8th, 2016.
Bob was born on April 25, 1939 in Sharon North Dakota to Leo LaBelle and Anna Marie Rygg. He spent his early years on his grandparents' farm in the Mayville/Portland, ND area.

Bob moved to Minneapolis as a boy, but continued to spend summers at the farm. He graduated from South High in 1957, and was legally adopted by Milton Lufkin that same year.

Bob attended the University of Minnesota for two years. While attending the University, he met and fell in love with Donna Drews. He married Donna on September 8, 1962 at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church in Bloomington, MN.

He worked as a Quality Engineer for Control Data/General Dynamics his entire career.  His name is on two patents for electronic circuits developed during his career. Bob was well known and respected for his ability to solve design/manufacturing problems. So much so, that they continued to employ him as a "contractor" for several years following his retirement.

In September, 1970, following months on dialysis, Bob was given "the gift of life" by his mother. Anna donated one of her kidneys to her son.  Bob was blessed with 46 years of life following his kidney transplant. He was stubborn and he was a fighter! He spent most of those years living a fulfilling & active life and defying the odds of transplant rejection/kidney failure. For this the family will be forever thankful! He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend. His laugh, quick wit, and twinkle in his eye will be missed by many.

Bob is preceded in death by his mother, Anna. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; sons, David (Maegan) and Steve (Stacy); grandsons, Isaiah, Zachariah, Loren. His is also survived by his younger sister, Linda. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Home - 9947 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington, MN. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Monday, May 16 and one hour prior to service on Tuesday, May 17 at the funeral home. Memorials preferred.
