Coordinator for Sheet Metal Apprenticeship Training. Member of the Bloomington Planning Commission. Served in the Navy during the Korean War. Friend of Bill W. for 47 years. James Henry Burkhardt age 85 of Bloomington,MN, passed away August 3, 2015. Born in Kiel, WI on April 25, 1930. Jim served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He married Mary Jane Main on March 6, 1952. Jim had a long career as General manager at Korner Plaza. Jim is survived by two sons Jeff (Lori) and Joel (Lori); two grandsons Kyle (Morgan) and Tyler; brother William Burkhardt; sister Elizabeth Licato. Preceded in death by wife Mary Jane, Daughter Susan Kay, brother Edgar Burkhardt, parents Edgar and Emma Burkhardt. The joys of his life were his family. Gwen Burley, 92, of Bloomington, formerly Edina, passed away Wednesday, August 5, with her family gathered near, just as she loved it.
Gwen was the epitome of grace, class, and beauty. She had a personal style that never quit, and a closet that didn't, either. She was a friend to many, always intently interested in people and their backgrounds, their celebrations, their struggles. Gwen listened earnestly, giving advice that was never forgotten because it was always offered with the deepest and wisest thought and understanding.
Gwen was born in Buffalo, NY, on Dec. 21, 1922, to Thomas and June (Morrison) Smith and lived most of her younger life in that area, graduating from Lafayette High School and attending Univ. of Buffalo. She married G. Robert "Bob" Burley on Oct. 16, 1948 in Buffalo, and moved to Edina, Minn., in 1963 where they raised seven children.
Gwen is survived by her husband Bob and children, Mike (Stephanie), Bridget (Jim Stangl), Brian (Suzette), Marty, Brad (Patty), Matt (Cathy), and Rob. Also by grandchildren, Bryan (Tanya), Brittany (Josh), Christina (Ryan), Katy (Andy), Natalie, Meghan, Ali, Shannon, Patrick, Maddie, Will, Anne, Tommy, Paul, John; and great-grandchildren Harper, Sydney, Gabriel, Jonah, Jack, Lucy. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Thomas Smith, Janet Higgins, and Faye Grobe.
