Bud Burniece…to some he was “Papa” to some he was “Uncle Bud”…at age 95, left us on June 9, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, but returned to Minneapolis at age three where he lived for the remainder of his life. He was the second child of Thomas F. Burniece and Harriet (Chrispen) Burniece and was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Tom, Jr. and Stuart, and sister Yvonne. Bud is survived by his wife of 68 years Carol (Richard) Burniece and their three children Joseph, John (Yvette), and Cheryl (Tom) Huss. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Joshua, Jennifer, Aaron and Ryan; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Bud absolutely loved music and brought music into just about every aspect of his life. His greatest joy was playing his clarinet and saxophones and singing hundreds of songs he had memorized, categorized by the season or reason for the celebration. He loved making people happy at the various celebrations and practiced constantly to play ever better at the next “gig.”
Bud was extremely diligent with everything he did whether it was his sheet metal work with the “Burniece’s Heating” family business, (and other companies), manicuring his lawn, tending his beautiful rose bushes, or any odd maintenance job around the house…each completed meticulously and completely. Where many men might say “you can fix anything with duct tape and baling wire,” Bud would claim sheet metal and pop rivets were the answer to repairing broken items!
Bud’s beloved life-long partner Carol was the light of his life and his biggest fan. He loved the fact that she helped monitor his music schedule and assured him he, of course looked “smashing” in his music outfit of the day on his way out the door.
Bud was very proud of his military career for the U.S. Army Air Forces, stationed in England, repairing the airplanes using his keen sheet metal skills gained from attending Dunwoody Institute of Minneapolis. Anyone mentioning Dunwoody would catch Bud’s ear – a school of which he was so proud to be a part and a graduate.
*In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Dunwoody Institute, Twin Cities Musician’s Fund, or a donation of your choice.
