Obituary for Vernon George Ellis
Vernon George Ellis, 90, of Bloomington, MN, passed away on March 2, 2023.
Vern was born on February 19, 1933 to Edward and Julia Ellis in Minneapolis, MN. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, he served in the US Marine Corps, and went on to study at the University of Minnesota.
After attending the U of MN, he landed his first job as an elevator apprentice for Otis Elevator Company, and continued to work for Otis for 39 years in increasing technical roles and as a Construction Superintendent. In 1955, Vern met Marlene Mitchell Ellis, and they wed in 1956. They went on to have four children; Kevin, Renee, Brian and Teresa, seven grand children; Matt, Ryan, Ted, Anthony, Sam, Natalie, Nikki, and three great-grandchildren; Logan, Owen, and Madeline.
He lived a life filled with passionate faith and spiritual devotion, and was an active member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church for many years. Vern was also an enthusiastic traveler, frequently camping and fishing with his young family and went on to explore the world with Marlene.
Vern is survived by his wife of over 66 years, Marlene, as well as his sisters, Marie Landy and Bernadine Howell. He is preceded in death by his parents Julia and Edward, and his brother Gerald.
A service to honor and celebrate Vernon’s life will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington, MN. Mass will begin at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
