Obituary for Trisha Ann Haapoja (Niemi)

After a childhood battle with leukemia, and a recent four year battle with metastatic breast cancer, Trisha Ann Haapoja, age 45 went to be with Jesus on September 21, 2020. A caring, beautiful, spirited wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend, who embraced all life’s moments including a fierce love of dance, puzzles, nursing, shopping, outdoors and quality time with all. Trisha was born in Robbinsdale, MN and raised in Brooklyn Park, MN. The oldest of 3 daughters, she spent her childhood years dancing at Summit and her summers vacationing at the cabin and camping. Always studying hard, she graduated in ‘93 from Osseo Senior High and became a Gustavus Adolphus graduate in ‘97. She spent years caring for children as a Registered Nurse on the oncology unit at Children’s Hospital before attending St. Catherine University to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She loved her career and walked through life with a thirst for knowledge. In 2004 she married Matthew Haapoja and they were blessed with their daughter, Lillian in 2006 and their son Oliver, in 2011. Her family was her world, there is nothing she wouldn’t do for them. An avid participant and volunteer at school, church and in the community she always strived to help others. Every person she crossed paths with she cared for with pure compassion. A true guardian angel on earth and now in heaven. Survived by her husband, Matthew; children, Lillian (14) and Oliver (8); mother, Cynthia Niemi; father, Bruce Niemi; sisters, Tara (Jason) Swain and Laura Hurrins; numerous family and friends. Visitation 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25th at the Church of the Cross, 201 9th Ave. N., Hopkins. A private service will be held Saturday, September 26th.
