Todd Edward Topel died at the age of 64 Monday, surrounded by his family in his Bloomington, MN home. Born in Minneapolis to Richard and Jerry Topel in 1955, Todd spent his early years in Coon Rapids and summering “up north” with his brothers and cousins. He worked as a telecommunications engineer, enjoying great friendships with his colleagues. In 1995, he met Jeanie in an elevator at the Star Tribune, which led to a 24-year marriage full of love and companionship. Todd was a lumberjack, lover of animals and nature, and through it all, a loving husband and father. Preceded in death by father, Richard Topel. Survived by wife, Jeanie Mellem; daughter, Laura (Jason Stopa) Mellem; grandson, Jackson; mother, Jerry Topel; brothers, Richard (Mary) and Greg (Shelly) Topel; nieces and nephews, Lauren & Jacqueline, and Travis & Matthew. Todd also leaves behind his beloved pets, including cats William, Vivienne, and Eugene and hens Stella, Vanessa, and Lydia. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, 2200 W Old Shakopee Rd., Bloomington, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service and luncheon to follow.
