Obituary for Thomas Patrick Kilkelly

Thomas Patrick Kilkelly, age 73, lifelong resident of Richfield MN, entered eternal life July 6, 2021. Thomas was born February 1, 1948, the son of John and Dolores Kilkelly. He is survived by his wife Carla, daughter Meghan, son Michael (Jill), three grandsons: Samuel, Benjamin, and James, brother James Kilkelly, and sisters Kathleen (James) McNulty and Mary Jo (Michael Vadnie) Kilkelly. Thomas was a passionate mathematics teacher who inspired, mentored, and educated students and colleagues throughout his long career. He taught in many places, spending most of his career at St. Thomas Academy and Wayzata High School. After retiring from classroom teaching, Tom worked with the students and mathematics department at Cristo Rey High School, dedicating himself to the Ignation Volunteer Corps. He was proud of the accomplishments of the math teams he coached and their numerous state championships. He authored contest problems and challenged students to become skilled problem solvers. Tom was always pleased when people would introduce themselves as a former students and tell him how his teaching or coaching affected their education and career choices.

Thomas was a child of God, a follower of Christ, a son, a husband, a father, and a teacher. His description of himself also included friend, mathematician, musician, builder, and brewer. He was countless other things as well and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

A celebration of Tom’s life will be held Wednesday, July 14th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 S 8th St. and can be watched live at https://www.youtube.com/user/SaintOlafChurch/live. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Tom’s ashes will be interred at a later date. Memorials preferred to St. Olaf Catholic Church or Cristo Rey High School.
