Obituary for Deacon Thomas Kasbohm

Thomas (Tom) Francis Kasbohm, age 90, of Saint Terese of New Hope, formerly of Bloomington, passed away peacefully December 6, 2022 in the home and presence of family. Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joan Kasbohm; parents, Frank and Mary Kasbohm ; brothers, Bob and Don Kasbohm. Survived by 10 children, Terri Kasbohm (Jess Rossi), Frank (Pam) Kasbohm, Mary Jo (Tim) Egan, Kathy (Kemper) Cagney, Joe Kasbohm, Tom (Patty) Kasbohm, Rosey (Gary) Brausen, Pete (Denise) Kasbohm, Donna Kasbohm & Paul (Carey) Kasbohm; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grand-children (with two more on the way); sisters- in- law, Donna Kasbohm, Marietta Kasbohm, Sue McCarthy, Mary Lou Wilder and Pat Bolstad, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Tom was known for his faith, love of God, family, service, nature, the outdoors, sports, good health and good habits, kindness, gratitude, generosity, and humor. He was inspiring, devoted, compassionate, respectful, resilient, and humble. He had a warm smile, an unfailing interest in others and an extraordinarily strong grip.

Tom graduated from DeLaSalle HS in 1950, from the University of MN in 1954, and later received a master’s degree in education administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Tom was a pilot and instructor pilot in the US Air Force achieving the rank of Captain. After this Tom served as an education specialist and recruiter for the US Navy, covering a five -state area. Tom studied to be a deacon in the Catholic Church at St. John’s Seminary in Collegeville, MN and St Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein, Il. He was ordained in 1972. He served a Chicago suburb parish, Santa Maria del Popolo and then returned to the Twin Cities where his ministry included assignments at Nativity of Mary in Bloomington, St Thomas the Apostle, Resurrection (merged with St. Kevin in 1991 and renamed Our lady of Peace), the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis, Mary, Mother of the church in Burnsville, and other parishes as needed. His welcoming smile and warmth will be deeply missed.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 13 at The Church of the Nativity of Mary, 9900 Lyndale Ave. S., Bloomington. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Monday, December 12 at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave. S. and one hour prior to mass at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Catholic Charities, Saint Terese of New Hope, and the National MS Society.
