Roxie had a peaceful & dignified death on Sunday, January 26, 2020. She was born in Minneapolis on July 26, 1946 to Wallis F. Gardner and Mary Lou Gardner. Roxie grew up in Richfield and she loved living in the Twin Cities, as well as her devotion to her Minnesota Vikings. She loved going to the home games, being in a family that are still long-time season ticket holds since 1963. Roxie graduated from Holy Angels and quickly began working for her father in the Circulation Department at the Minneapolis Star & Tribune for the next 35 years.
Roxie was so kind hearted, had such a zest for life, a fondness to entertain, and a love for her animals. She had many passions after retirement that she loved to share with her many friends. She also had the unique ability to make each of us feel special. After a near fatal fall and a subsequent head injury, Roxie resided at the Walker Care Center where her dear friends, Nadine Sehnert and Anna Jasulevicius stayed true and faithful until the very end. Special thanks and gratitude to her very thoughtful and caring guardian, Jullene Kallas and the attentive staff at the Walker Care Center.
Roxie is survived by her younger brother, Tom; her baby brother, Willy; niece, Stacey Swistoski and Stacey’s son, DeAngelo Swistoski. She is also survived by many friends and Father Joe at St. Albert’s Church. Roxie was preceded in death by her father, Wallis F. Gardner; mother, Mary Lou Gardner; older sister, Georgia; younger brother, Mike, who was killed in Vietnam; and younger sister, Lucinda. A celebration of Roxie’s life and funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 31st at The Church of St. Albert the Great, 2836 33rd Ave. S., Minneapolis with visitation beginning at 9:00. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to PAWS.com
