Obituary for Fr. Robert E. Keane
Father Robert Emmet Keane,
Age 95 of Minneapolis, passed gently at home with family on July 6. Bob (“Midge”) was the third of five amazing children of an Irish immigrant father and German mother. Bob was preceded in death by parents Maurice and Agnes (Hollerbach), brothers Jim and Tom and his wife Louise, sisters Helen and her husband Wayne Marx, and Jane and her husband Jim Brenny. Bob is survived by sister-in-law Kay (Jim), 19 nephews and nieces, and 34 grand nephews and nieces. Bob grew up in south Minneapolis in the Depression attending Holy Rosary Parish School and South High. He graduated from the College of St. Thomas with a degree in physics and mathematics. He served in the South Pacific during World War II as a radio ensign aboard the USS Teton. After a distinguished career as a Honeywell engineer working on naval defense systems in Minneapolis, Anaheim, CA and New London, CT, Bob entered the Sacred Heart Seminary and was ordained a diocesan priest in 1978. Father Bob served as a pastor and associate at parishes in and around Minneapolis including St. Stephen’s, Our Lady of Grace, St. Edward’s, St. Mark’s, Nativity of Mary, Our Lady of Peace, Holy Name, Annunciation, St. Peter’s and St. Helena. Father Bob will be remembered for his deep faith, creative genius, rapier wit, enormous joy for life, and homilies grounded in wisdom and caring. Special thanks to his care team of Peggy, Bridget, Shelley and Colleen.
A wake at Gill Brothers, 58th Street and Lyndale So., Tuesday, July 14, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of The Annunciation, 509 West 54th Street Wednesday, July 15, 2020, 11:00 a.m., reviewal at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to St. Stephen’s Human Services and Catholic Charities of the Twin Cities.
