Obituary for Robert William Jarvis

Jarvis, Robert

Our Dad went to that big engineering convention in the sky, entering peacefully on November 19 at the age of 96. A lifelong resident of Minneapolis, he met the love of his life, Ellen Schimschock, on their first day at Central High School in 1939 (he offered her his seat in a crowded classroom) and they made it official ten years later. His entire working career was spent as an Electrical Engineer at Honeywell, doing, well, all sorts of engineering stuff over the course of 43 years. (Frankly, us kids lost interest when we discovered he wasn’t driving a train.) He was actively involved—and highly awarded—in numerous engineering societies at both the state and national levels. In retirement, he gladly took on the role of mall walker, volunteer income tax preparer, IT expert at his senior apartment building, and weekly joke supplier to the Holy Name Church After-Mass Wednesday Coffee Klatch. He lost Ellen in 2007 after 58 years, but soldiered on best he could. He’s survived by daughters Mary Ahrens, Annette (Joe) Ward, Catherine, Patty and Sarah (Dave) Perro, and son John (Beth); 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration Mass is scheduled for Thursday, December 22 at 10am, with visitation beginning at 9am, at the Church of the Holy Name, 3637 11th Ave. S, Minneapolis. Dad was never a big flower guy, so we suggest memorials to Church of the Holy Name or Resident Fund, 7500 York Ave S. Edina, 55435.
