Robert Howard Harvey passed away on July 9th, 2023 at 91 years. He was born and raised in Minneapolis and Edina, MN. He attended Christ the King Grade School and St. Thomas Military Academy. He enrolled in the University of Minnesota ROTC, then joined the US Navy, serving as a Lieutenant Purchasing Officer during the Korean conflict, then honorably discharged. He then attended the University of Minnesota, obtaining his Bachelor Degree in Business.
Bob’s career was spent in various firms in downtown Minneapolis, working for Dean Witter Reynolds, Kidder, Peabody & Co., and Piper Jaffray. He was an active member of the Daybreakers Breakfast Club. He also invested in small business ventures, such as the Poppe Shoppe and Grandma Lees Bakery. Throughout his years he was actively involved in the Minneapolis Art Institute, the Walker, Guthrie Theater, the Minnesota Orchestra, a Vikings season ticket holder, and an avid Twins Fan.
His dedication to his Faith in the Catholic Church and God’s Love was the foundation of his life. He was an active member of both St. Olaf Catholic Church and the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis and was involved in multiple capacities with both communities. He was a board member for the Basilica, in addition to various roles in supporting the Landmark Foundation, the Basilica Block Parties, and a member of the Crossroads Group.
Next to his strong Faith was his commitment to his Sobriety through Alcoholics Anonymous and his dedication to helping others. He was a “life-secretary” on the Board of the Retreat of Wayzata for 31 years, taking great pride in the spiritual principles of AA, leaving a legacy of love and service. He was a beloved friend and mentor, leaving a forever impression and difference in people’s lives.
He was a devoted father to his 2 Children, Grandfather, and loving husband to the love of his life, Mary Mork. He will forever be remembered for his commitment to God, his Faith, his community, his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna & Lyndon Harvey; his brother, Donald Harvey and sister, Jeanne Almond, and wife, Mary Mork Harvey. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Frakie (Jay); son, Robert W. Harvey (Sandy) and grandchildren, Joseph, Alexis, and Robert Behr; sister, Mary Ann Hanna and nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 17, 2023 11:00 a.m. at The Basilica of St Mary. Visitation 1 hour prior to Mass with lunch to follow. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
