Obituary for Richard Otto Bartz

Richard Otto Bartz
Age 93 of Edina, MN passed away July 6, 2022. Richard was born in Milwaukee, WI on May 29, 1929. In 1947 he graduated from Racine County Ag School. He attended the University of Wisconsin Madison and received a B.S. degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1951. He was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-53. From 1953-55 Richard returned to University of Wisconsin and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1955 Richard married Mary Anna Hemp of Mosinee, WI. From 1956-61 Richard was employed by the U.S. Government in the US Patent Offices in Washington D.C. as a patent examiner. He attended the American University Law School while there, which resulted in a Law Degree in 1961. From 1961-2022, Richard practiced patent, trademark and copyright law in Akron Ohio, Des Moines Iowa and Minneapolis Minnesota. Richard is survived by Christina Mezera (Chad), R. John (Lori), Steven (Susan), Thomas (Kari), Paul (Cynthia) James, 16 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, sister-in-law Dorothy Wheeler and brother-in-law Richard Hemp. Richard lost the love of his life Mary Anna in 2018, but prior to that they enjoyed traveling all over the world where Richard took thousands of pictures of Mary. Richard continued to travel every January to Florida. Every summer he planted a huge garden of sunflowers, gladiolas, geraniums and tomatoes. His last birthday was spent fishing with his children on Lake Minnetonka where he caught the biggest Northern fish of his life. A celebration of Richard's life will be held August 18, 2022 at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave, Mpls MN. Visitation 10:30, Service 11:30. Lunch, Internment 2:30. Memorials to Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church.
