Age 88, of Golden Valley, MN. Died on August 7, 2019. Born in Burdur, Turkey in 1930. Graduate of the University of Ankara Medical School and the University of Minnesota PhD program in Internal Medicine. Preceded in death by parents Ibrahim and Ayse Gokcen, and brothers Cengiz and Attila. Survived by wife Barbara, and daughters Sabiha Gokcen (Samuel Lipson), Leyla (Amin) Kassem, Aysel (Jeremy) Butler, Jasmine (Misa) Saros and Arzu Gokcen; and grandchildren Oren & Ethan Lipson-Gokcen, Jennah, Hana, Zayd & Deena Kassem, Ella & August Butler and Alexander Saros. Also survived by sisters Sultan Demirel, Sidika Gungor, Nese May, Serpil Anderson and Canan Kuday. His Janazah was held August 8 at the Islamic Institute of Minnesota. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
