Mary Sundberg Wehmann (nee Sundberg) passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 6 at the age of 90. She was born on February 23, 1932, to Margaret and Paul Sundberg.
Preceded in death by her husband Halsted Wehmann, brothers Paul JR and Jim Sundberg and still born daughter.
Survived by daughter Susan Wehmann Crist (David), Katie (Luke Duschl), Lizzy and Maggie. Son John Wehmann, Emily Mosoff (Matt), Ben and their mother Anna Wehmann. Son Billie Wehmann (Beth). Son Jimmy Wehmann (Lori) Charlie, Tommy, George, Henry, William and Louie. Daughter Annie Schrader (Mike) Sam, Ella, Mimi, Soni and Janie. Son Fr. Mark Wehmann. Daughter Betsy Peterson (Jeff) Alice, Lilly, Josie and Mary.
Mom grew up in Edina attended Christ The King grade school, Southwest high school and the University of Minnesota where she joined Alpha Phi Sorority.
She married Halsted Wehmann in 1957. They started their family in St. Louis Park.
In 1967 they moved to Lake Sylvia in Annandale after their 5th child was born. They had seven children and mom became a fierce advocate for their education. She taught Junior Great Books, faith formation and was the first woman elected to Annandale’s school board.
In 1990 Mom and Dad moved to downtown Minneapolis where they enjoyed life, including Friday night movies with friends and Sunday family dinners.
In 1997, dad passed away and mom continued a full life of friends, family, volunteering and faith. Mom was a member of the Minneapolis Woman’s Club for 42 years. She hosted ice cream socials, luncheons, dinner parties, book clubs and bridge clubs. She got up every morning, swam at 5am and walked to daily Mass at St. Olaf. She volunteered at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. She was a Guardian ad Litem and represented children in Family Court who didn’t have a voice. She volunteered at Birthright and the League of Catholic Women.
Mom will be most remembered by her grandchildren for “Camp Condo” where she planned many adventures for them to share together.
Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 11, 5pm with Visitation starting at 3pm. St. Olaf Catholic Church, 215 So. 8th Street, Minneapolis. (Live stream link:
