Obituary for Mary Elizabeth McGraw

Mary Elizabeth McGraw passed away on January 6, 2020 at Mount Olivet Home in Minneapolis, MN, Mary was born October 1, 1938 in Minneapolis and spent most of her life in the Twin Cities. Her lifelong passion for music and piano led to meeting her future husband. The young couple moved between small towns before settling in Rosemount, MN to raise 3 daughters and 2 sons. Mary struggled with mental illness that limited her contact with family and friends for many years. Mary still had a passion for writing and music and was active with daily walks through the Minneapolis skyway systems and dreams of finding work and happiness. Mary was blessed in her later years reconnecting with the family and friends who missed her. She had a passion for music and writing to her last days until dementia and time took its toll. She was a mother, sister, daughter, wife, and gifted writer. She taught us all to dream big and fight for what we want. In her unconventional way, she showed us how to love unconditionally, to nurture creativity, to work hard, and to enjoy a good laugh. We will miss those sparkling blue Irish eyes and cheeky laugh. She is preceded in death by her mother Bernice (nee Kelly) McGraw, her father, Patrick McGraw, and her brother, Richard McGraw. She is survived by her children Brenda (David) Cordle, Ken (Lucy) Kohn, Cheryl Kohn-Marks, Karina Kohn, and Mathew Kohn, 8 Grandchildren and 4 Great-Grandchildren, as well as her siblings Jim McGraw, Mike McGraw, Jerry (Pam) McGraw, Mark (Diane) McGraw, Kathleen Shank, and Theresa (Mark) Jensen. Memorial Service will be at Mt. Olivet Home Chapel in Minneapolis, MN, on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 10:00 AM.
