Mary Philomena Lewis (Gaughan), age 79 of Richfield passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in her sleep June 9, 2020. Mary was born on May 5, 1941 in the small village of Tavanaghmore, in County Mayo, Ireland and immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. Preceded in death by parents, John and Kathleen (Higgins) Gaughan; brother, Johnny. Survived by children, Tim Lewis; Jayne (Robert W.) Jacobson and Patrick (Heather) Lewis; grandchildren, Madalyn, Molly, Leo and Bel; siblings, Seamus, Billy, Breege, Hannah and Pat; many nieces and nephews.

Mary was a kind and gentle soul who always put others before herself. She was loved by countless friends and family in the U.S. and abroad. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Mary lived most of her life in Minnesota, but also parts of her life in Florida, New York City and Baltimore. She also moved back to Ireland for a few years before her mother Kathleen passed away. She was proud of her Irish heritage and stayed in close contact with all of her relatives across the pond.

Mary’s Catholic faith was very important to her and she rarely missed Sunday mass. She had a gift for engaging anyone in small talk, making others laugh and smile. She enjoyed her work in retail, including many years at Tuesday Morning, where she worked up until her death.

We are so sorry to hear of Mary's unexpected passing. Mary was a "light," always having twinkly eyes, a smile on her face, and the ability to make you laugh. She brought much joy, and was a most-dear friend to Mom and Dad. Condolences to Tim, Jane and Patrick, as well as the rest of Mary's family and friends. Mary will be missed.... Rest in peace...

Mary loved sharing stories of her life and the joy of her children, grandchildren and family. She was fun and embraced her coworkers and their families! I hear her voice and laugh and feel her blessings! Love to her family, Sue Krause; friend/coworker at Tuesday Morning 💕

I met Mary Lewis on my visits to make purchases at Tuesday Morning and we became friends. Mary was a real pro at retail and mentored so many others on the sales force at her store. It was a pleasure to watch her teach- she knew her trade and respected the individual. She was a mentor also to a neighbor from Bosnia who lived on the same floor- advising on interactions between her friend and the city, place of work and so on. Mary was caring, alert, funny, plain spoken, canny and a really good friend. i will miss her rantings on local issues and on daily life here and in Ireland. Her death is a great loss to all her pals.
