Marlene Allen Ochocki passed away On January 26th, 2023. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday with family and friends.
Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Marlene was a gifted pianist who loved to share her joy of music with everyone, especially children. She spent several years teaching music to the children at St. Peters A.M.E. daycare. She was also the Director of the Cantinos choir at St. Peters A.M.E in Minneapolis, MN. They held several annual concerts, toured to other churches and even cut a record.
Marlene had a successful thirty-seven year career with the Minneapolis Veterans Administration hospital. She started with the VA as a typist, and advanced through the ranks to become the Chief of Recruitment Services for the hospital. She won the Civil Servant of the year award for the MPLS VA hospital and at retirement she was recognized with a Director’s Commendation for her service.
In retirement she enjoyed Book Club and Lunche Bunche with her many friends, but especially enjoyed her time with family. She was a ‘regular’ everywhere around the 494 loop from Lincoln Dell, to Lunds & Byerly’s, Daytons to Macy’s and Festival. Everyone knew who Marlene was and they loved her.
Marlene was the loving wife to Eugene Ochocki. She was the cherished great-grandmother (Mimi) to Emelyn Merda, Aleksander Ellis and Mason Merda, grandmother of Taryn Ellis and Rion Ellis and mother of son Robert “Terry” Ellis. She is survived by her brother Robert Allen, nieces, nephews, many cousins, step-children, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Celebration of life to be held February 10th from 1-3pm at Fred Babcock VFW Post 5555 6715 Lake Shore Dr S, Richfield, MN 55423. The family asks you to bring your favorite photo and/or story of Marlene to share.
