Obituary for Linda Louise Schunk (Gilman)
Linda (Gilman) Schunk, age 70, of Bloomington, Minnesota passed away at her home on the morning of May 3rd.
Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, Linda moved to Minnesota after graduating from high school to attend college. This is where she met her husband Rick of 49 years. They were married in January of 1970 and lived in Richfield. They later moved to Golden Valley where they lived for 23 years. Linda was a very active member and staff of the Northwest YMCA in New Hope for many years; teaching swimming lessons, CPR classes and doing annual fundraising. After her two daughters were raised, she began working at Carson Pirie Scott department store, which later became Herberger’s. She continued to work for Herberger’s until 2018.
Linda enjoyed extensive travels by motorcycle with her husband; family camping vacations by car with the kids; 10 years of completing the Komen 3-Day Walk; gardening; and her dogs.
She is survived by her husband, Rick; her daughters, Lisa and Renee; and her four grandchildren, Madison (16), Emma (14), Joey (14), and Lily (14). She is also survived by two older brothers, Tom and Fred (Nilda); and four sisters, Theresa (Nick) Theisen, Rose, Holly (Rich) Wright and Ann (Kevin) Klein; mother-in-law, Colette; sister-in-law, Marilyn; brother-in-law, Tom; as well as lots of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillian Gilman; her father-in-law, Chuck Schunk; and sister-in-law, Betty Gilman.
Because taking care of family was so important to Linda, we request that monetary donations be made to the Hope Fund at Mayo Clinic, which assists with the costs involved for families to travel and stay close to loved ones who are receiving treatment at Mayo.
Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 10th 10 a.m. at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church 9900 Lyndale Ave. So. Bloomington, MN. Visitation Thursday, May 9th 5-8 p.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Home 9947 Lyndale Ave. So. with prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. and visitation 1 hour prior to mass at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
