Obituary for Kevin John McDevitt

Kevin John McDevitt, 68, of Bloomington, MN, passed away the morning of February 17, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Bungert); his children, John (Mikaela), Joseph (April), Julie VanDierendonck (Matthew), Jackie Gartland (Grant); his grandchildren, Drew, Carson, Molly, Emily, Everly, Gavin, Sophie, Layla, Kelly, Lux; and his siblings, Donna, Tom (Marian), Jim (Helen), Terrance (Therese), Kenneth, Mary (Dan), Margaret (Jim), and Elizabeth (Jim). He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Marion McDevitt, and siblings, Julia and Daniel (Cass). Kevin was the younger twin born April 3, 1953, in Minneapolis, MN. He later attended DeLaSalle High School and picked up a love for baseball. He was the proud owner of both his bar and a Corvette Stingray before meeting his wife Bev while they both worked at the Knights of Columbus. They married on October 12, 1979, and he moved to her hometown of Bloomington. He didn't know the word “no.” When people were looking for help he was there. His volunteer heart took him many places, including being a Firefighter with the Bloomington Fire Department for 20 years, coaching baseball, softball, and basketball, and being a staple at the Fireman’s Softball Tournament. After his “retirement” in 2008, he spent time “working” at daycare, where he touched the lives of many families. He also took more time to attend Twins games with family and friends. In December 2020, he was diagnosed with ALS. He fought hard to see his two most recent grandchildren born and spent time with the family creating memories before his passing.

His wake will be held at Gill Brothers Funeral Home in Bloomington, MN (without Guinness, sorry) on Friday, March 4, 2022, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church Saturday, March 5, 2022, at 10:00 am, presided over by Fr. Nathan LaLiberite.

In place of flowers, please send donations to the Bloomington Association of Retired Firefighters (BARF) or The ALS Association of Minnesota (https://donate.als.org/kevin).
