Obituary for Kathleen Ellen "Kay" McGuire (McCarthy)
On Friday, April 10, 2020, Kathleen (Kay) McGuire, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away at the age 85.
Kay was born March 10, 1935. She grew up in Elba, MN, and spent her childhood on the McCarthy family farm before moving to Minneapolis in her early 20s. On June 18, 1960, she married James (Jim) McGuire. Together, they raised their four children Patrick, Michael, Amy, and John. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy, and if there was a way to spend every day of the week with them, she would have wanted it that way.
During her many years living in South Minneapolis, Kay became very close friends with her many neighbors, parishioners at Annunciation Catholic Church and the Kenny community. Kay spent many years working as the welcome receptionist at Borton Volvo dealership where she loved interacting with the guests and the whole team who worked with her. She had an appreciation for nature, classical music, holiday music, Elvis, golf, bowling, swimming and watching (or listening on WCCO) her favorite Minnesota sport teams, especially the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Vikings. She enjoyed good conversations and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to spend time at “the cabin”, and often spoke of memories from her experiences on the farm with her beloved siblings. Her loved ones will remember her for her for so many amazing things especially her authentic smile, open arms and big heart.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her father, Leo, and her mother, Rose. She is survived by her four children, Patrick, Michael, John (Heidi) and Amy, her four siblings, Mary (George), Charlie (Judy), Patricia, and Barbara (Rick), and her four grandsons, Joseph, Alex, James, Leo, and Riley (Mom and Dads trusted companion).
Due to the current environment regarding the coronavirus pandemic, the family will hold a private funeral service at her parish church, Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Kay’s faith was an important part of her life. The family requests any donations that friends and family may have put towards flowers or other tokens of remembrance be shared directly with the church of Annunciation.
