Joyce Elaine Johnson

Joyce Elaine Johnson, 87, of New London, Minn., passed away on September 21, 2019, surrounded by loving family.

Joyce was born to Albert and Alma Hefta (Stenvik) on July 18, 1932, on the family farm west of Portland, N.D.—the 9th of 12 children. After completing nursing training in Fargo, she moved to Willmar, Minn., for her first job at Rice Memorial Hospital.

While living in Willmar, she met the man who would become her husband, Kenneth Johnson. Joyce and Kenny were united in marriage on September 17, 1955, in Portland. They moved to Bloomington in 1957, where they built a loving home and raised their four children.

Along her journey, Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family at the lake home in New London, Minn., gardening, volunteering at the VEAP food shelf, participating in weekly card club, and attending a wide variety of athletic events and activities to support various family members. She traveled to all 50 states and was widely renowned for her lefse-making skills.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 64 years, Kenny; her four children: Nancy Johnson of Lakeville, Brian (Susan) Johnson of Minneapolis, Bradley (Mickie) Johnson of Rosemount, and Kurt (Jan) Johnson of Eagan; four treasured grandchildren (Jamie, Jacob, Reid, and Brooke); and one adored great-grandson, Benjamin. Further survived by brothers, Allen and Charles; siblings-in-law, nephews, nieces, and friends whom she dearly loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers (Gordon, Howard, Kenneth, and Albert), sisters (Edith, Norma, Alice, and Sylvia), and several beloved siblings-in-law.

Funeral service Thursday, September 26th 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church 8400 France Ave. So. Bloomington, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to service. Private family interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
