John James Linsmayer of Golden Valley, MN – beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully and loved on February 10, 2020. He was 90 years old. Born September 3, 1929 in Minneapolis to Carl and Ruth Linsmayer, John was the youngest of six children. He lived life on his own terms and lived it well. He attended St. Thomas Military Academy and graduated in 1947; he attended the University of Minnesota and after serving in the US Navy, made his way to the west coast and the city of San Francisco. John then moved back to Minneapolis, the city he loved, to continue his zest for life, friendship and a good golf game. He joined the Minneapolis Golf Club in 1960 where he met many of his closest friends and remained a member for over 50 years. After settling in Minneapolis, John met his wife of 53 years, Karen. John loved his wife, his five children, his faith, friends, the spirit of competition and a good card game. John was known for his compassion, warmth, quick wit, being head of the “Skunk House,” and his unique sense of "entrepreneurship." He made those around him feel important and loved. Preceded in death by his parents, Ruth Fitzpatrick Linsmayer and Carl Peter Linsmayer; sisters, Helen McNulty, Mary Jeanne Lang, Joanne Mahoney, his twin Janet Holker, and brother, Carl Peter Linsmayer Jr. Survived by his wife, Karen; children, David John Linsmayer (Summer); Anne Smith (Matthew); Jane Husband (Chris); Stephen Linsmayer (Tara); Mimi Peavy (Michael); grandchildren, Sammy Smith, Lucy Smith, Will Husband, Annie Husband, John James (JJ) Husband, Graham Linsmayer, Oliver Linsmayer, Murphy Linsmayer, John Patrick (JP) Peavy, Michael Peavy; his many nieces, nephews, friends and beloved black Labrador, Wally. Gratitude and thanks to Father Joseph Gillespie, Dr. Bevan Yueh, (U of M), Dr. Naomi Fujioka and the staff at Havenwood in Minnetonka. Linsmayer family I read of john's passing in the newspaper. I was not able to attend neither one of the services, but know that all of the family are in my thoughts. I remember John. He and I met often at soccer games or other school activities very much like he was described in the obituary gracious and warm.

John was one of a kind! He always had a quick line or come back to make you feel right at home! From helping him clean up the Skunk House to taking Steve and MImi to the wresteling matches to eating so much steak one night at the Linsmayer house I had to excuse myself from the table to go get sick! We would go to luch at some dive place in Minneapolis and John would know the name of the bartender, the cook, and the bus boy and I was always amazed how he made people feel like he cared for them because he did! His family loved him and will always love him! I will always remeber John as someone I would like to be when I grow up! See you in the next life John!

Dear Karen and Family,

Linda and I send our sincere sympathy for the loss of your husband John. Karen, even though I haven't seen you in many years, I have fond memories of you and Carol and some of the weekends in Glencoe. It almost seems like it was another lifetime!
God's Blessings to you Karen. We are in Az. for the winter, and will be back home late March.
