John (“Jack”) Arthur Campbell was born May 22, 1943, and grew up in Minneapolis. He was a proud graduate of St. Thomas Academy (’61) and the College of St. Thomas (’65).
His 40-year career in insurance was spent advising organizations and companies on employee benefit plans. His dedication to providing comprehensive care while serving as a trusted mentor made him a respected colleague to all who worked with him.
In life, Jack’s main focus was family, both immediate and extended, and his close friends. His entire family valued him as a role model. He developed strong friendships that began in grade school and lasted his entire life.
Jack had a special gift of cultivating these relationships over time by consistently connecting. He had a way of making those closest to him feel valued for the gifts and talents that made them unique.
An avid golfer, Jack absolutely loved the game and the many friendships he made both on and off the course. Olympic Hills was his home club for many years and he valued the sense of community it created.
The family cabin on Lake Koronis was Jack’s absolute favorite place, especially when surrounded by his beloved grandchildren. He relished the role of activities director, assuming the titles of fishing guide, pontoon captain, grill master and pancake breakfast coordinator. He was devoted to passing on his vast knowledge of the lake and its preservation to the next generation.
Fishing was another of his favorite pastimes whether at the family cabin or on his annual fishing trip to Big Sandy Lake. He loved the camaraderie of his fishing partners and was thrilled that his grandsons shared his passion.
Jack’s Catholic faith, which was a constant source of strength, nurtured his strong belief in giving back. His activism included volunteering at Our Lady of Peace Hospice, serving as an adaptive golf instructor, donating his time in elementary school classrooms, and consistently supporting his local food shelves.
For 54 years, he and his wife Linda built a life focused on faith, family and friends. He will always be remembered by those closest to him for his storytelling skills, quick wit and sympathetic ear.
Jack’s legacy will live on in the wisdom and life lessons he imparted on the most important people in his life, his six grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents John and Iris, Jack passed away Feb. 6, 2021 after suffering a heart attack. He is survived by his wife Linda, his children Mary (Dan) and John (Kristi); grandchildren Jack, Emma and Annie Breyak, Katie, Ellie and Ben Campbell; and brothers Pat (Karen), Mike (Linda) and Tim.
Jack's family is grateful for the incredible compassion and care provided by both the ER and ICU teams at Fairview Southdale Hospital.
