Obituary for Jerome Andrew "Jerry" McNulty

Jerome McNulty
March 21, 1962 to March 30, 2023
Jerry McNulty died suddenly March 30 doing what he loved: 4-wheeling through the woods.

He leaves behind his wife of almost 30 years, Lisa White-McNulty, sons John (Alex Ochenkowski) and Patrick McNulty, brother John (Cathy) McNulty, sister Jill (Greg) Brock, numerous nieces and nephews as well as extended family. Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, John and Jo McNulty, and brothers Jim and Jeff (Teresa) McNulty. He also leaves behind countless lifelong friends from Morris and Southeast Missouri State. We will all remember his dad jokes, pranks, hilarious stories, and heartfelt generosity. The family dogs, Sophie and Hazel, will miss him dearly.

Jerry McNulty was born on March 21, 1962 to John and Jo McNulty. After graduating from Morris High School in 1980, he attended Joliet Junior College before transferring to Southeast Missouri State University, where he played football and earned a BA. He went on to earn an M.Ed from Chicago State University and an M.Ed from the University of St. Francis.

Jerry taught in Community High School District 218 for over 25 years and was highly respected by colleagues. He was dearly loved by his students, who called him Mr. Mac. He coached a variety of youth sports over the years, and was especially proud of his work with the Morris Warriors football program. His passion and hard work positively impacted the lives of many young men, including John and Patrick.

Jerry was everyone’s best friend. Outgoing and energetic, Jerry lit up a room when he walked into it. He was caring, loyal, and devoted to both his students and his community. He gave the best hugs. His comedic relief and endless support of those he loved will be missed very much. In addition to 4-wheeling, Jerry also loved playing sports, cars, and going on adventures with the boys and his friends. He loved carrying on the tradition of making the McNulty Family homemade noodles. He was a diehard Bears and Cardinals fan and hardly missed a chance to see a game.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on April 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Morris Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Huntington's Disease Society of America or Special Olympics would be appreciated.
