Obituary for James Leslie "Jim" Madsen

Madsen, James Leslie October 9, 1945 - March 25, 2019 Born in Milaca, Minnesota to Jennings and Virginia (Mathis) Madsen the third of 5 children. Jim loved the open air. He served in the Army Reserves as a paratrooper and later continued his passion of skydiving logging more than 700 skydives and winning competitive awards. What he did, he did well. When not jumping from planes, as Jump Master, he taught, packed parachutes (which he claimed ‘no one ever returned one’) and flew parachutists in the University of Minnesota Skydivers club. An avid pilot and member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, he self-built a Long-EZ airplane from scratch. When he wasn't in the air, he loved fishing, golfing, and bowling and was proud of his once recorded perfect 300 game. He loved his 3 labs and fostered several dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Lee; brother, David Roger; and a baby boy. Survived by son, David Madsen; daughter, Jennifer (Karl) Tinsley; grandsons, Bryce and Brevon Madsen; step-grandchildren, Hans and Monique Tinsley; and sister, Diane (Cleat) Madsen. Celebration of Life Friday 2 p.m. at Lakewood Memorial Chapel 3600 Hennepin Ave. Minneapolis, MN. Visitation ½ hour prior to service. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Animal Humane Society.
