Obituary for Gilbert Burns "Gil" Lansdale

Gilbert Burns Lansdale age 93 of Bloomington was born in Washington D.C. and died peacefully on August 21, 2019. Gil still holds the strikeout record at Gonzaga High in DC, served in the US Army European Theater during WWII. He was captured in France and was a POW in Germany for 6 months. Gil worked with the Washington Senators and moved to Minnesota to help form the MN Twins, where he continued his career until he retired in 1986. Preceded in death by wife, Mary Ann. Survived by children, Mary Catherine (Timothy) Loomis, Jeannine (Rick) Helmerichs, Michael (Lisa) Lansdale; grandchildren, Scott, Erik, Rich, Matthew, Allison, Carter and Rachel; sister, Joan Smith from Salisbury, MD; and many nieces, nephews and life-long friends. Gil'favorite quote:

"Big Gill is on the hill! Never worked, never will!"

Mass of Christian Burial Thursday August 29, 2019 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity of Mary, 9900 Lyndale Ave. So. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 5-7 p.m. at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Avenue South and 1 hour prior to Mass at church.
