Obituary for George Gardner Healy

Healy, George Gardner

After a two-year battle with lymphoma George died peacefully on January 2, 2021 at age 68. He is remembered as a devoted brother, uncle, godfather, and friend. Preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Bernice Healy and his sister Kathleen. He is survived by his siblings Stephen (Dianne), Mary (Patrick) McDermott, Peter, and Sarah (Paul) Trotter, his sister-in-law Karol Chamberlin, and his nephews and nieces Michael Healy (Jessica Klein), Patrick Healy (Priya), Nolan McDermott (Robyn), Megan Benson (Adam), Claire Chamberlin, Joseph Trotter, and Kathleen Hanson (Phineas). He is further survived by his grand nephews Trey, Isaac and Jonah, his grand niece Rhen, and many other friends and extended family members. He was a graduate of De La Salle High School and Creighton University. He was also a member of the Catholic Alumni Club for several years where he made many lifelong friends. He recently retired after working at Transit Team where he cared deeply about the people he worked with and those he served. He was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed following basketball and football at the high school, college and professional levels. He enthusiastically supported the Minnesota State Fair and also enjoyed history, genealogy, and music including concerts at Orchestra Hall.

A celebration of his life will be held at some point in the future. Memorials preferred to the Walker Methodist Foundation, the Mayo Clinic or a charity of the donor’s choice. The family would like to extend a note of thanks to the staff at the Walker Methodist Care Suites, the Allina Hospice Team, and to Dr. Stephen Ansell and the Hematology staff at the Mayo Clinic for providing such wonderful care for George. They would also like to thank the many friends and extended family members who provided encouragement and support during George’s illness.

“You have been a dear brother and uncle to us and you will always be in our hearts!”
