Obituary for Edward Hoffman "Michael" Keating

Edward H. “Michael” Keating age 95 of Edina died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Staff Sargent Mike Keating served as radioman on the front lines during WWII, clocking many miles as he walked across Europe. Upon returning to the States and finishing his education at St. Louis University and the University of Minnesota, he followed his father and grandfather into the insurance business with Equitable Life of New York, selling individual policies until the 1960’s when he began his long career in Employee Benefits. In 1960, Michael joined the St. Croix Yacht Club, serving as Commodore in 1966, and remaining on board until 2014. In 1971, the marina where Michael kept his boat was going to be sold, so Michael and a few fellow boaters one night, in a bar, came up with a plan, written on a cocktail napkin, and in 1972 established the Port of Sunnyside Marina in Stillwater. He married Mary Jo Keating in 1982. They spent endless summers on their boat on the St. Croix, at their cabin in northern Minnesota, and travelled here and abroad.

Survived by loving wife, Mary Jo, sons, Kipp (Cindy) Keating, Christopher (Lauren Schlatter) Keating, Todd (Jill Larson) Keating; grandchildren, Amanda, Hunter, Genevieve, Atticus, Jon; great grandchildren, Leoanna, Lily, Alexis. Preceded in death by grandson, Kipp Jr. and sister, Elizabeth “Biz” Keating Reed.
