Obituary for Donna Mae Spangberg (Folkema)

Spangberg, Donna age 76, of Bloomington arrived at the pearly gates in her Ford Mustang on February 1, 2023. Preceded in death by her parents, Dick and Minnie Folkema. Survived by beloved husband of 56 years, Jim; children Scott (Mary Kay) and Julie Dunn (Jeff); cherished grandchildren Denver, Joey (Kristina), Maddie, Maria, Danny, Sarah and Matt; and great granddaughter, Sophia; her siblings John, Grace and Elsie and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Donna was born and raised in Mora, MN. She attended a one room schoolhouse not far from the farm. In her youth, she spent many weekends at the Fish Lake pavilion roller skating and hanging with friends. That is, coincidently, where she met her future husband, Jim. She graduated from Mora High School in 1964. She and Jim were married in September 1966 and bought their first home in Bloomington where they would stay for many years.
She stayed at home to raise her kids and then enjoyed a long and loved career as the Executive Secretary for the Director of Community Education for the Bloomington Schools until she retired. Entertaining for holidays was high on her list of enjoyable activities as was attending events for her kids and grandkids. She was one of the original “Hockey moms”. No one could compete with her organizational skills which were on display every year at the Bloomington Schools charity golf tournament that she put together.
Going to estate sales was another favorite pastime. She would keep herself and her kids well stocked with plastic wrap, tinfoil and other supplies that she never paid full price for. The kitchen needed to be well stocked to support her baking. There was never a shortage of cookies or cake when one was there visiting.
We will always remember her never ending generosity, kindness, a full cookie jar and her love of birds.
