Obituary for Donald Peter Kassa

Born 6/8/1929 to George & Elizabeth (Kinn) Kassa in New Effington, South Dakota. Don was an Army Veteran and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of Local 633 cement layers union for over 62 years and spent 52 years in the bricklayer’s union. He loved to work with his side-kick son Tim and his other sons and continued working until the day he died. Don was a jack-of-all-trades, he was very good at auto repairs, home building and remodeling, he was always willing to help family and friends. When he wasn’t working, he loved to garden, play cards, read books, especially Zane Grey and military ones. While reading or saying the rosary Don would spend hours pedaling on his Cubii Elliptical machine and challenge others, the record is currently his for the most steps. Another favorite hobby was time spent fishing and ice fishing with family. Preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Sister Antoinette, Joseph, Mary Ann, Theresa, George, Elizabeth, Paul, Tony, and Georgiana. Survived by loving wife, Martha; children, Ron (Bette), Mary (John) Baltes, Gary (Nancy), Terry (Connie), Tim, Rick (Anna), and Donna (Carl) Diamond; siblings, Cathy (Al), Pete (Casey); 23 + grandchildren, 37 + great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Mon., April 19, 2021 at the Church of St. Bonaventure, 901 E. 90th St., Bloomington, MN 55420. Visitation 3-6:00 p.m., Rosary at 5:30 p.m. on Sun., April 18th at Gill Brothers Funeral Home, 9947 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington, MN 55420 and one hour prior to Mass at church.
