Twin Cities "Music Man" Chuck Scott, 89, of Edina, passed away peacefully Friday June 19, 2020.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Caroline (Szczech) Scott and their children: Chuck Jr. and his wife Grace (Minneapolis), Cory and his wife Laura (West Linn, OR) and Cathy (Green Isle) and four grandchildren: Ben and Ethan Scott and Brooke and Cody Reinier. Chuck is also survived by his brother Jim (Roseville), his sister Sandi (Boulder, CO) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Worthington, MN, the son of Charles Scott Sr. and Florence (Fury) Scott. Chuck served in the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army's Special Services and as part time assistant director of two Army bands: the 317th and the 330th.
After the war, Chuck taught public school band for several years, resigning in 1959 from Long Prairie to partner with Groth Music. During his 32 years with Groth, he introduced more than 30,000 students to music. He also led the company's entry into the school music program and launched its very popular Lessons in the Home program.
Chuck loved to hunt and fish, and relished spending his winters in the Florida Keys and his summers on Big Winnie. His greatest joy in retirement was the keyboard concerts he performed at various Twin Cities assisted-living facilities and the thousands of smiles he put on the faces of so many older adults.
A private ceremony will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials can be sent in Chuck’s name to the Nobles County Historical Society.
