Obituary for Carol Helen Taylor (Wicks)

Carol Helen Taylor
Our beloved mother and grandmother passed away on July 18, 2022 in Charlotte, NC. Born December 27, 1943 in Los Angeles, CA. She was 78 years old. Carol, ever the plucky Norwegian was always optimistic and determined to fight till the end. Carol from her earliest years strove to keep pace with the boys and usually succeeded. In 1984 after our father perished tragically in an accident she single handedly had to take charge as the head of the house and continue to raise three boys. She did so commendably. As a mother, she set high standards and allowed her children space to find their own identities, make mistakes and excel on their own terms. She led by example, embodying discipline and integrity and taking a true and focused interest in life and all her endeavors just as our late father did. After son Tim graduated high school, Carol relocated from her longtime home of Minnesota to her much desired warmer climbs in Arizona in 1987. There she immersed herself in welcome wagon and other local civic endeavors. After a time she went back into the working world and had been a manager for an insurance company for a number of years before she decided enough of that was enough. She was deeply interested in women's rights and in politics and foreign affairs, paid close attention, had a very informed view and wasn't shy about correcting what she perceived as a wrong. More than anything, Carol was a personality. She was energetic, curious, humorous, thoughtful, warm, inclusive and always positive right till the end. We will miss her dearly. Carol is survived by her three sons: Trevor, Timothy and Scott. Daughter-in-law Kerry Taylor (Timothy). Grandchildren Emily (Taylor-Robinson), Desiree, Isabella and Maya. Her brother Ronald (Wicks) and sister-ion-law Janice Kay (Vanderlee), niece Renee and her husband (Nelson) and nephew Randy and his wife Chris (Wethern). A brief service will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis at 12:15 pm, assembly area #4 ~Friday July 29th prior to her internment where she will be laid to rest next to her late husband R. Stephen Taylor. Flowers are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations to Planned Parenthood are most welcome.
