Betty Ann Nelson
Betty Ann Bergman was born August 31, 1930, and died April 26, 2020 from natural causes. She was 89 years old. Betty Ann was born to Milton Edward Bergman and Josephine Ingeborg Steen Bergman in Graceville, Minnesota. She attended Ortonville High School and graduated in 1948. She enrolled at Minneapolis General Hospital in the School of X-Ray technology and became a registered X-ray technician. Upon graduating, she went to Red Wing and worked at St. John's Hospital. While there she met Robert Lee Nelson. In 1951 Betty Ann decided to spread her wings and went on the train to Seattle, Washington. She worked in the hospital there for about six months. She returned to Minnesota and went to work in north Minneapolis for a doctor and for her uncle Carl doing bookkeeping.
On April 4, 1953, Betty Ann and Robert were married in Ortonville, Minnesota. They moved to Vasa Township outside of White Rock, Minnesota and set up housekeeping on the family farm. Betty Ann worked for a doctor in Cannon Falls. In January 1955 life took a sharp turn. Robert was drafted and sent to Basic at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri. Betty Ann moved to Cannon Falls to be close to work. When Robert was stationed at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, Betty Ann moved there as well and worked in a clinic. In 1956 Robert was sent to Ansbach, Germany, and she accompanied him there. They lived off base in a shared residence with a nice German family. They returned to the United States in December of 1956 and moved to Hastings, Minnesota. In April of 1957 their daughter Kay Marie was born and they moved to south Minneapolis. Betty Ann worked at a doctor's office in St. Louis Park for several years. While Kay was in school she volunteered in the school library which started a new passion. She took the Civil Service test and started working in the Minneapolis Public Library System at several branch libraries for many years. Upon retiring from the library system she went to work for Bethlehem Lutheran Church as the financial secretary for several years. When she retired from that she continued to volunteer at church in various capacities and she and Robert also spent many hours volunteering in the coffee shop at Redeemer Residence while Betty Ann's mother Josephine lived there. Betty Ann enjoyed reading, doing the daily Cryptogram in the paper, going to concerts and plays, and playing Scrabble. She is survived by her husband, Robert; daughter, Kay; sister, Jeanne (Fran) Vipond; and brother, James Bergman. Private family service on Friday, May 8th, 11 AM, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, but will be live-streamed at blctcmn.co/banelson Interment to follow at Lakewood Cemetery. If so desired memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Foundation, Park Nicollet Hospice, Mt. Ollivet Day Services or donor's choice.
