Obituary for Beryl Jeanette Deskin (Anderson)

Beryl J. Deskin passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on November 7, 2022.

Beryl Jeanette Anderson was born on October 4, 1946 to Harold W. Anderson and Esther (Haanstad) Anderson and grew up around the country, following her father in his US Air Force posts, eventually settling in Des Moines, Iowa.

Beryl attended Luther College In Decorah, IA and Drake University in Des Moines, IA. She graduated with an education degree from Drake and taught for a year in Des Moines. Later she completed a Master's Degree from Augsburg University, MN.

She married Jack L. Deskin, Jr. on June 14, 1969 and they remained married until Jack's passing in 1996.

They moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1969, and raised two daughters, April-Nicole “Nikka” Deskin and Miriam A. Deskin/Anderson in Minneapolis.

Both she and Jack were very active in their congregation, Bethlehem Lutheran Church - Twin Cities. One of their many accomplishments at Bethlehem Lutheran was helping to resettle one of the first Vietnamese refugee families in MN in 1975, with whom they are still close.

Both she and Jack also taught Sunday school for many years, helped design print materials and brochures, served on multiple committees and planning groups and were active J League & Hi League parents.

Beryl loved singing. She sang for many years in the BLC Sr. Choir and established many close and loving relationships. It was always easy to spot Beryl in the choir loft with her short red hair.

Beryl's passion was communications. She pursued a long career in corporate communications at Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent), personal coaching and founded her own consulting business Deskin Leadership Communications.

Beryl valiantly fought cancer since 2016, finally resting peacefully, surrounded by loving family.

Service plans are pending. The Deskin family would like to thank all of the wonderful family, friends, co-workers and business partners who helped make Beryl’s life beautiful. Much love to all. Beryl is survived by her daughters, April-Nicole “Nikka” Deskin, Miriam Deskin & Richard Anderson, Edward Jack and Mollie Anderson, Wendell and Sharon Anderson.

Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice, St. Paul, MN or Bethlehem Lutheran Church - Twin Cities, Mpls, MN
