Astrid Emily Alexander
Age 89, of Edina, MN (formerly Minneapolis), passed away on December 30, 2021, while residing under the care of staff at The Waters of Edina.
Astrid was born on the farm on November 7, 1932 to George and Emily Vikingstad in Elmore, MN. After graduating high school in Elmore in 1950, Astrid attended the University of Minnesota and graduated with an undergraduate degree in education in 1956. Astrid began a 30+ year career teaching elementary school for the Minneapolis Public Schools in 1961.
Astrid loved the City of Minneapolis, art, the first Unitarian Society that she joined in 1951, and traveling to Europe and Jamaica.
Astrid is preceded in death by her parents, George and Emily Vikingstad, and her second husband, Dr. Carl Alexander.
Astrid is survived by her sister, Georgette Valle, first husband, Colin Connel, daughters Stephanie Connel (Cheryl) and Camille Ritter (Don), and granddaughter, Sarah Ritter. Astrid is a;sp survived by nephew Peter, neice Christine, and step-children Gary, Mike, and Linda.
Visitation will be held at Gill Brothers Funeral Chapel, 5801 Lyndale Avenue South, from 4 pm - 6 pm on Wednesday, January 5, 2021. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery on Thursday, January 6, 2021.
