Obituary for Greg and Rita Corcoran

On Friday, March 24, 2023, Allen Gregory “Greg” Corcoran passed away at the age of 91 and on March 29, 2023, Rita Mary Corcoran (Osdoba) passed away at the age of 92. Greg and Rita were married for nearly 65 years and were loving parents of three children.

Allen (Greg) was born on July 20, 1931 in Jessenland, MN to James and Olive (Doheney) Corcoran. After growing up on the family farm, he served in the US Army and then started his career as a heavy machinery operator with the Operating Engineers Local 49ers Union.

Rita (Osdoba) Corcoran was born on January 1, 1931 in Minnesota Lake, MN to Louis and Margaret Osdoba (Breck). Rita grew up on the family farm along with 7 siblings. She then attended beauty school before starting a salon in New Prague with her business partner.

Greg and Rita were married on June 14, 1958. They moved to Minneapolis where they raised two daughters, Colleen and Connie, and one son, Steven. They dearly loved their two grandsons Zev and Henry and rarely missed their sporting events and were their biggest fans. After retirement they discovered a passion for peace and justice with the local community.

Greg was known for his gentle and kind spirit, quick wit, warm smile, the twinkle in his eye, and his generous desire to help anyone in need. He loved working with his hands and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed many hours spent in his garage and basement workroom working on various projects. He could often be found tinkering with a procession of cars, lawn mowers and snowblowers in his garage.

Rita was a strong and gracious person known for her ability to keep people and schedules on track and running smoothly with her organizational superpowers. She pulled together family gatherings with ease and cultivated a beautiful home and garden. She operated a neighborhood salon out of her basement while juggling the responsibilities of raising a family. Rita also had a warm spirit and generous heart. She instilled in her children the values of persistence and the courage to try new things and stick with them.

They both enjoyed being outside. The family cabin brought them many years of great joy. It was a place to enjoy nature, relax, have fun and of course work on projects. It was a place where family and friends were welcomed.

Their lives were filled with faith, love, joy, and gratitude. They will be missed, but they will always remain in our hearts.
