Obituary for Alice Elizabeth Auer (Schubert)

Alice Elizabeth (Schubert) Auer passed away November 11, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born July 22, 1930 in Isle, MN to Edward and Jane Schubert. She grew up in Wahkon, MN on the Schubert family farm, and graduated from Isle High School in 1948.

Alice moved to Minneapolis with her sister, Mary. The two sisters were inseparable friends for life! They first moved in with their aunt for a short time, and then found an apartment on their own in the Uptown area of Minneapolis. Alice met her soon-to-be husband, Ray Auer, at a Catholic League dance in a rented dance hall near 6th & Hennepin in downtown Minneapolis.

Alice married Raymond Auer on October 16th, 1954 at St. Mary’s Basilica in downtown Minneapolis. They rented a house near Lake of the Isles for a short time before building a new house in St. Louis Park. This would be their home together for 65 years of marriage. Alice and Ray raised a wonderful family of eight children in St. Louis Park.

Family was everything to Alice. She always went the extra mile to make sure that every single member of the family was cared for and felt special. Mom always treated all of her children equally well. All of her children like to joke that “I was Mom’s favorite”. The reality is that all of her children were equally right! Alice could cook melt-in-your-mouth delicious food to feed her family and anyone else who visited the Auer home. Because of Alice, we all know what faithfulness, patience, fairness, loyalty, and love look like. She was a devoted Catholic her entire life, and is now home with Jesus.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Raymond Auer; her brother Phil Schubert, and her sister Mary Schubert. She is also survived by her children Terri (Kevin) Bosley, Ken (Cindy) Auer, Monica (Gary) Nickles, Len (Maeve) Auer, Steve (Barb) Auer, Mike Auer, Jane (Phil) Schipper, and John (Mary) Auer; 16 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Alice is preceded in death by her siblings Vince Schubert, Ray Schubert, Lawrence Schubert, and Len Schubert.
