Alan Jarvenpa, age 70, of St. Paul, died December 7th, after a difficult battle with cancer.
Preceded in death by parents Oliver and Aili Jarvenpa. Survived by brother Robert (Hetty Jo
Brumbach), sister Diane and niece Lilia. He was a Columbia Heights high school graduate and
attended Anoka-Ramsey Community College. He worked for the Department of Natural
Resources and for many years for the Minnesota State Historical Society. He was a birder, an
avid fisherman, and loved a well-told story. He suffered physically for much of his life but
found help in friends, community involvement, baseball, and music. He will be so missed,
but we will find him in all the lakes and the many birds he loved so much.
