Burial or Graveside Services

funeral burial service planningAt Gill Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, we want to make sure that you are well informed about the different types of burial services in Minneapolis.  We think this is important so you can make the right choice about how to say goodbye to a loved one, or pre-plan your own funeral burial service.

First of all, what is a funeral? That might seem like a trivial question, but we find that even now there are people that come to us and do not know how a funeral is structured, or what its true purpose is. We have added some links below with helpful information. If you are considering funeral burial services in Minneapolis for either yourself or a loved one, it is important that you read our burial services page. This page covers the different graveside services that Gill Brothers Funeral Home and Cremation Services offers and gives you a breakdown of the various options for each.

Graveside Service

In many ways,  a graveside burial service is similar to a traditional funeral.  The key difference being rather than holding the remembrance service at a church or funeral home, the entire service takes place at the cemetery.  A graveside service can also be held after a traditional funeral service or prior to a memorial service.

How to Plan a Graveside Service

Whether the graveside service is going to be accompanied with another service or is a stand-alone event, the process of planning is quite similar.  Much like a  funeral, it is often led by a designated officiant or religious leader like a reverend or priest.

The first step in planning a burial service is to select a cemetery.  Depending on how you plan to care for the remains, there are many different locations within a cemetery from which to choose.  The available spaces include graves, a mausoleum crypt, columbarium niche or scattering garden. Even if your loved one is cremated, burial and  graveside services for cremation are possible.

The second part of planning a graveside service is planning the service.  This is when you arrange for an officiant or someone to lead the burial service. You should select pallbearers and ask people if they would be a part of the service. Once this is done, you can select what readings or prayers will be said as well as who will deliver the eulogy. Gill Brothers' staff will guide you through this service planning stage.

The third part of planning a graveside service is inviting guests. Once the details have been arranged, you can start providing guests with the service information and other things they need to know.
