An icon is gone. I’m a better person for getting to know you, Cy. I’ll never forget the trips Sen. Wellstone sent you and me on traveling across rural Minnesota together in a mini van organizing and strategizing with citizens about how to build bridges between urban and rural America. I will miss you. My love to Fran and the whole family.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Cy served as a role model, mentor, adviser, and friend during my career. I met Cy as a young person when he was leading the Minnesota Farmers Union. During summers at college, I served as camp director for his youth camps. Many years later, Cy hired me when he served as President of the National Farmers Union and Chairman of the Green Thumb, Inc. Board of Directors to lead Green Thumb. He continued to serve on the Green Thumb (later renamed Experience Works) Board until after my departure in 2004. Cy was an inspirational leader and speaker, a man who knew his "true north" and who was a tireless advocate for farm families, older individuals, and others in our country who struggled to live. He was kind and caring, and always ready to lend an ear and do what he could to help. As a young woman leading a large national organization, I often turned to Cy for wisdom. He never failed to encourage, to share positive words, and to fight for what was right. Our world will miss him. --Andrea Wooten Sperryville, Virginia

My heart felt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Cy. He was such a great guy - he constantly gave of himself to promote very worthy causes. I had the honor of knowing Cy for many years from his affiliation with Farmers Union and Green Thumb, now Experience Works. We had many discussions about farming and family. He was proud of his family for sure. He will be missed. Sally A Boofer
