Obituary for Gregory James Shields

Gregory James Shields age 72, of Bloomington, MN, died peacefully at home on January 15, 2019, from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, diagnosed after a ski accident in Colorado, December 2001. Greeted in Heaven by infant twin sons, William James, Samuel James; granddaughter, Hope; brother-in-law, Michael Julius.

Survived by his wife of 49 years, Laurie; son, Kevin James (Jessica; granddaughter, Esmae); daughter, Megan Shelton (grandsons, Wyatt James and Owen James); brothers, Scott (Greg’s stem cell donor), Brian (Ann); sister, Mary Julius; brother-in-law, Duncan (Sally) Fowler; nieces and nephews, and loyal pup, Stella.

Son of Vincent and Dorothy (Worthingham), he grew up in Richfield, attended Assumption, graduated from Benilde High School and the College of St. Thomas, ‘71.

Served as aeromedical evacuation flight medic in the Minnesota Air National Guard. Career in medical sales. Served others through volunteering: Bloomington Fire Department (Retired), Viking Council BSA, hockey coach, ski patrol, church, Park Nicollet Cancer Center.

Happy Hour visitation: Friday, January 25, 5-8 p.m. at Everett McClay VFW, 311 W 84th St. Bloomington. Mass of the Christian Burial: Saturday, January 26th 11:00 a.m. at The Church of St Edward 9401 Nesbitt Ave S, Bloomington. Visitation one-hour prior to Mass. Reception to follow. Private interment St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Burnsville.
