Obituary for William Victor Belanger Jr.

Belanger, Senator William Victor II. Age 90 of Bloomington, MN passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on December 28, 2018. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Victor Sr. and Leona Nolan; and grandchild, Colin. Bill is survived by his wife of 65 years Lois; children, Cheryl (Gary) Rhoades, Mary Beth (Tim) Saldin, Pamela (Ron) Tupy, William III (Amy) Belanger, Richard (Tanya) Belanger, James (Michelle) Belanger, and Jennifer (Jason) Buda; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry; and sisters, Margaret Mary and Elizabeth Louise. Bill was a veteran of two tours in the Korean War in the US Army Corp of Engineers. Upon returning home he was employed by Honeywell where he met his wife Lois. They settled in a home in Bloomington, where Bill became actively involved in the community. His love for the city became his passion as he served 10 years for the Bloomington Jaycees, 12 years on the Bloomington city council where he helped establish Normandale Community College, and then onto 26 years as the State Senator for Bloomington and surrounding areas. His vision for the city was responsible for much of the growth and development of housing, parks, and businesses; including the Mall of America. Bill was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and served 4 years as their Grand Knight. He also devoted his time and leadership to the Boy Scouts of America. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time at his cabin in Birchwood, WI. Bill was a graduate of De LaSalle high school, attended St. Thomas University, and was a member of the Nativity of Mary Catholic Church in Bloomington. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and his many colleagues in local and state government. Funeral service will be held on Thursday January 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, 9900 Lyndale Ave S, Bloomington, MN. Visitation 1 hour prior to service only. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
