Obituary for David John Larson

David John Larson (1937 – 2018) of Orono and Cross Lake, formerly Golden Valley, MN died suddenly on December 20, 2018. Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Helen, brother, Tony, and wife Caryl. He is survived by his daughters, Janette Larson Reeves of Rochester, MN and Elizabeth (Skip) Lindgren of Shorewood, MN; grandsons, Zachary David and Grant Reeves and granddaughters, Frances, Vivian and Georgia Caryl Lindgren; sister, Margie Judge.
David was born in Anoka, MN on June 18, 1937. He graduated from Anoka Senior High, Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and NYU Law School. David met the love of his life, Caryl Louise Weyhrich, on a blind date the summer before their senior years in college. They were married on June 2, 1962 and lived in New York City, Coon Rapids, and Golden Valley, MN. Dave and Caryl were active members of Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley until Caryl’s death in 2014. They also enjoyed hosting family and friends at their vacation home in Cross Lake, MN.
In his professional life, David spent most of his career in the law department of Lutheran Brotherhood, retiring as Senior Vice President of the Law Department, General Counsel and Secretary to the Board of Directors after serving for over 25 years. Other career highlights were serving on the Board of Directors for the National Fraternal Congress of America (1995-98) and as President of the NFCA Board (1999-2000). David was also the Founding Chair of “Join Hands Day” in partnership with President George H.W. Bush’s Points of Light Foundation. He and Caryl were thrilled to attend the inaugural event for “Join Hands Day” at the Bush’s summer home in Kennebunkport, ME, and meet the former President and First Lady in 2000.
David was a loving father and grandfather, loyal friend, and kind man of integrity who is loved and will be greatly missed by many. A service of Celebration and Remembrance will be held on Monday, January 7 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, MN, 7520 Golden Valley Road, at 11am, with visitation preceding at 10am and a lunch to follow. Memorials to the American Heart Association and LifeSource Organ, Eye and Tissue Donation are preferred. He was a loving father, husband, and grandfather.
