                                                “Ace in the Hole”

Robert "Bud" Denman was born March 18, 1925 to Charlotte (the original lady GaGa) and Leroy Denman, brought up in austere surroundings young Robert honed his survival skills at an early age when his father left him at age 2. He was raised by his mother and grandmother in Southeast Minneapolis. He learned the fine art of rapport and found his tenacity in his grandmothers boarding house for girls on the U of M campus. The bedrock of his persona was built in that era and neighborhood. Ever the underdog, He loved to tell of his many victorious exploits at Van Cleve Park and Marshall University High School where he was a key ingredient to a 4 year run as city basketball champions in the early Forties. He was proud of his service in the 819th Bombardment Squadron 30th Bombardment Group during WWII serving in the Asiatic Pacific theater. Soon after returning he was on a “fishing” trip to Brainerd with his buddies where he met Dorothy Breckheimer and danced the night away at Bar Harbor. Smitten for life! And what a life they had together, an All American adventure that was his proudest accomplishment. Married in 1948 Bud and Dot raised 9 children (plus 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren) and Bud’s prize dog Duke in South Minneapolis and it has not been the same place since. When Dot passed away in 1994 his guiding light was gone. Down but not out, he rekindled his spirit spending 7 glorious years in Palm Springs, living on a golf course with great friend Jan Kerwood. Bud returned to Minneapolis in 2002 and the family is very thankful to have had some great quality time to hangout with the Old Master. A guy’s guy Bud loved sports, especially golf, he enjoyed a little gambling, a cig now and then and an occasional “bump”. Never one to hurry or worry Bud had a very successful career that took him from Car Sales, to Sporting Goods Sales, to owning a large Furniture Store, and to starting and growing a very successful Telecommunications business. He loved to compete and he cherished the win and had his share in all facets of Life. He got the most out of everything he had! Bud had a very graceful exit at age 86 on Monday December 26, 2011. Dot and GaGa waiting with open arms wondering where he’s been. He’s been with us and we will miss him dearly.

Williams, Frances Genter, 88, of Minneapolis passed away peacefully at home early on Saturday, December 17th, 2011.  “Frannie” was born October 4, 1923 in Minneapolis. She was predeceased by husband, Lawrence D. Williams; son-in-law, Robert S. Greig; granddaughter, Allison M. Greig; parents, Harold C. and Frances A. Genter; sister, Jean G. Smith and brother-in-law, Bentley L. Smith.  She is survived by brother, Harold Genter Jr. of Langhorne, PA; her eight children, Jeannie Williams (Marc) of Eden Prairie, Francie Williams of St. Louis Park, Lawrence Williams Jr. (Nancy) of Eau Claire, WI, Harold Williams (Meg) of Red Lodge, MT, Katherine Anderson (Colin) of Carbondale, CO, Molly Williams-Pike (John) of Seattle, WA, Amy Johnson (Kris) of Des Moines, IA, and Mary Krieter (Dan) of Edina; eleven grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Lindsay, David, Keaton, Katie, Amy, Brian, Mackenzie, Jennifer, and Andrew; niece, Susan Jean Smith; nephew, Bentley Smith Jr.; and by her dearly loved and loving companion, Don Hustad.  In her youth, Frannie attended a small school for girls in Miami, FL and National Music Camp in Interlochen, MI with whose orchestra she performed at the World’s Fair in New York City in 1939, and was a graduate of Washburn High School, Minneapolis, in 1941.  She met many of her life-long friends as a Theta at the University of Minnesota.  Early in her married life, Frannie was an administrative assistant for Martin Williams Advertising, a Minneapolis based agency that husband Larry co-founded in 1947.  While raising eight children, she still found time to stay fit playing tennis (into her 80’s); enjoy her friends and neighbors by hosting countless dinner parties at her Edina home and Clearwater Lake cabin, frequenting Interlachen Country Club and participating in Suburban Gyro Club of Minneapolis functions; and to enthusiastically follow her parents’ endeavors in the horse racing industry.  A race horse owner herself from 1995 to 2010, she bred and raced RUN WITH JOY to 2007 Horse of the Meet honors at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, winning a race named after her mother, The Frances A. Genter Stakes, along the way.  Frannie’s love of music, her impeccable sense of style and fashion, the way she danced with husband Larry, how she loved to celebrate holidays…these things will never be forgotten, but the first thing that will be remembered by all is her humble grace and heartfelt smile.  Funeral Service Thursday, December 29th, 2011 2PM at the Lakewood Cemetery Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Avenue.  There will be a Celebration of Life at 4PM, location to be announced.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Bob Greig and Frannie Williams Donor Advised Fund with The Minneapolis Foundation (donations will be directed toward children's causes).
