Ernest F. was born September 28, 1923 on the family farm in Jerauld County near Alpena, SD and died August 7th, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothea and Ernest Schmidt; sisters, Erma, Gertrude and Esther; brother, Walter. He is survived by wife, Charlotte; sons, Daniel, Steven and David (Kim); grandchildren, Kayleigh and Haydon; brother, Albert. Ernie was united in marriage to Charlotte Marie Barghols in 1949, lived in Bloomington, MN and Colorado Springs, CO. He went to country school and graduated from Alpena High School in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during WWII for 3 years. Ernie received a BSEE degree from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1949. He was employed as an Electrical Engineer for Honeywell for 33 years. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church especially enjoyed singing in the church choir. After retiring, Ernie kept busy by volunteering in many areas and especially at the MN Masonic Home. He was also a member of the Minnesota Minnehaha Masonic Lodge #165 and the Scottish Rite for over 60 years. Funeral Service Friday 11 AM at Normandale Hylands United Methodist Church, 9920 Normandale Blvd. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation Friday 10-11 AM at church only.
